Katie and Moses‘ bold, editorial wedding

Some weddings stand out not just for their beauty, but for the design challenges that lead to unexpected creativity. This wedding was one of those. It was editorial, bold, and filled with intentional design moments that perfectly reflected the bride’s personality.

From the start, Katie made it clear that she didn’t want anything traditional. She wasn’t even particularly drawn to flowers, which, as you can see, definitely changed, but she did love the color red. Luckily, we had the honor of planning for a bride who truly trusted us from the start. We had such an open and collaborative working relationship, and with her value in our expertise, we were able to create a striking atmosphere that stayed true to her vision.

The focus on one color may have at first appeared as a restraint, but it encouraged so much creativity in other aspects such as shades, textures, and materials. Shades of red were used to add dimension throughout the day. Deep berry tones, muted and bold reds, and neutral textures came together, creating depth and balance. The monochromatic moment captured a modern and refined mood, an elevated experience. To further capture the editorial vision, we had a unique runway-style ceremony. Guests faced inwards toward the aisle to watch the over 50-person wedding party walk down. The runway led to a custom stage and backdrop, offering a focal point behind the couple. The runway also included a ruffled texture to add subtle movement.

Although the chances of rain worried us up until the moment they said “I do”, the outdoor ceremony was the heart of the vision, and we worked seamlessly with the vendor team to ensure that it could happen exactly as planned. As soon as the ceremony ended, the rain began, and we smoothly transitioned guests inside for cocktail hour. Here, we showcased a custom seating chart composed of four pillars, the tallest standing at seven feet, draped in luxurious fabric that displayed guests’ seating arrangements in an elevated, sculptural way.

We incorporated rectangular tables for the wedding party to create structure and highlight important people in the couple’s life, while the rest of the room featured soft, circular tables to maintain flow and warmth. This mix of shapes broke up the room visually, guiding the eye through different focal points without feeling cluttered or forced.
