Grand Cayman Art Week Destination Experience

Cayman Art Week offered a unique opportunity to do what I love in a destination with an endless amount of inspiration. The event entailed a curated tour displaying the work of selected local and international artists, with each stop requiring a unique design to reflect the artists’ visions.

One of the very talented artists chosen to present his work in this experience, Mike Gustafson, reached out to me to plan his stop, from the positions of the pieces to how the tablescapes would complement the surroundings. This allowed Mike to focus fully on his work, while we handled the ambiance and flow.

His collection was themed “Cayman Blue”—a color that resonates deeply on the island. It’s the color of the sea, the sky, the homes, and became the heart of our design. We wove it into every detail: linens, runners, florals. Since the event called for constant movement of attendees throughout the different stops, we created cocktail highboys that encouraged mingling while still offering comfort. The design was thoughtful, fluid, and rooted in the beauty of Mike’s work.

Planning an event in a remote location comes with its own set of challenges. Despite there being no direct flights to the island, I made the journey—carry-on luggage packed with backup linens, vases, and frames. I prioritized communication with every stakeholder: the building owner, event directors, rental companies, and transportation teams. Every detail was considered.

Guests arrived and were immediately captivated. They lingered, engaged, and immersed themselves in the experience. Food was replenished, drinks were flowing, staff had everything they needed, and every guest felt welcomed and informed. The stop not only showcased Mike’s collection beautifully and cohesively, but also created an unforgettable guest experience.
